    • Begin Journal 1 today, using the above template. The last 10 minutes of class you will annotate your progress and add it to the journal. Journal 1 is due the first A day of next week, beginning of class, on paper.

    • By next class: install Pandoc and Latex, link them to your markdown editor. You should be able to generate latex-formatted .pdf files.
    • Here is a sample journal file and the resulting pdf from a proper Markdown installation. Use it to test
    • In class: write up your topic, a list of 4-6 ‘milestones’ you need to hit along the way, and also two variants – a ‘hard’ and an ‘easy’ version of your project if it proves to be too challenging or too simple. If you can’t identify a list of milestones, and some alternate outcomes, you probably need to revisit your topic.

    • In class, work on finding 5 or more background papers and write a summary of your findings in Markdown. Print and turn in hard copy in class.

    • Install Zotero for organizing papers
    • Find at least 5 background papers related to your problem or solution
    • Install a markdown editor with pandoc capability. Here’s a list but I personally recommend VSCode or Obsidian.
    • Write a paragraph or so, in Markdown, reviewing the background papers you found – be brief but specific about what has been done already, and what tools may help you solve your problem.
