Connecting to JupyterHub
Quick start guide for accessing the brainy server
Getting Connected

Connect to WiFi
Network: AET-3142
Password: (provided separately)

Open your web browser
Navigate to either:
brainy.local or 192.168.1.50

Login
You will need to request an account from the administrator.
Username: first_last
(all lowercase, e.g., john_smith
)
Password: (if known or provided by administrator)

First-time login: Set your password
If this is your first login, you'll be prompted to create a new password.
Choose something secure and memorable!
Connection URLs:
- brainy.local - Easier to remember (works on most devices)
- 192.168.1.50 - Direct IP address (use if brainy.local doesn't work)
Using JupyterLab
Once logged in, JupyterLab will start automatically. You'll see:
- Launcher tab - Create new notebooks, terminals, or text files
- File browser (left sidebar) - Navigate your files and folders
- Available kernels - Python 3 and any custom kernels you create
To get started:
- Click Python 3 under "Notebook" to create a new notebook
- Use File → New → Terminal to open a command line
- Upload files by dragging them into the file browser
Troubleshooting
- Can't reach brainy.local? Try using
192.168.1.50
instead
- Forgot your password? Contact the administrator for a reset
- Login not working? Double-check your username format (firstname_lastname, all lowercase)
- Connection issues? Verify you're connected to the
AET-3142
WiFi network
